Eagles take first series from Troy since 2018
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team took both games in a doubleheader with Troy on Saturday at J.I. Clements Stadium after weather forced Friday's series opener to move to Saturday. The Eagles overwhelmed Troy in the first game for a 24-1 win, and the Eagles clinched the series in the second game, 8-4.
GAME ONE
Georgia Southern (30-15, 16-6 SBC) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a Parker Biederer double that would clear the bases and score Sam Blancato, Austin Thompson and Noah Ledford. The Eagles would plate eight more runs in the bottom of the third inning, leading 15-0 after the first three frames.
The bottom of the fourth inning saw Jarrett Brown knock a two-run homer to center field, bringing Ledford home with him. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Corey Dowdell had a three-run home run to left-center field, plating Avant and Swan, breaking the 20-run mark on the score. Troy (29-15, 13-9 SBC) would score one run in the top of the seventh inning from a home run, but the Eagles would plate two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to clinch the 24-1 win. Ty Fisher earned his third win of the season with a career performance, fanning nine batters and only allowing one run in seven innings of work
GAME TWO
Troy (29-16, 13-10 SBC) took an early lead with a run scored from a fielder's choice in the top of the second inning, but Georgia Southern (31-15, 17-6 SBC) would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when an Austin Thompson RBI-single would bring Noah Ledford home. The Trojans would plate three more in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead in the middle of the fifth inning.
The Eagles narrowed the gap in the bottom of the fifth inning with a groundout plating Parker Biederer, and a Jason Swan RBI-double plating Sam Blancato. GS plated five more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take an 8-4 lead, getting the lead with a two-RBI double by Biederer, an RBI-single from Blancato, an RBI-single from Swan, and the final run was driven in with a balk by the Troy pitcher, scoring Jesse Sherrill. Jay Thompson navigated the Eagles through the final four innings, earning his fifth win of the season, striking out five and allowing only three hits with no runs.

- In game one, Ty Fisher set a new career-high for strikeouts, striking out nine Troy batters.
- The Eagles scored a season-high 24 runs in the first game, which was the most they have scored in a game in 11 years. The last time the Eagles scored 24 runs was a March 9, 2011 contest against Bethune-Cookman. GS won that match-up 24-9.
