MOBILE, Ala. – The 25
th-ranked Georgia Southern baseball team swept a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against South Alabama by taking the final game, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon at Eddie Stanky Field.
Georgia Southern (27-12, 14-4 SBC) found itself behind after two innings, when South Alabama (22-16, 9-9 SBC) scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. In the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles would get on the board when
Jarrett Brown plated
Noah Ledford with an RBI-single.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Eagles would take the lead and never surrender it, starting when
JP Tighe belted a two-run homer to left center field in his first game back from injury, giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Two more runs would score with a
Christian Avant RBI-double bring
Blake Evans home, then a
Noah Searcy ground out plating Avant.
In the top of the seventh inning, Ledford would score
Jason Swan with a groundout, pushing the Eagles' lead to 6-2. Avant would crank a home run to left field in the top of the ninth inning to put a bow on the game, giving Georgia Southern a big conference sweep over the South Alabama Jaguars, 7-2.

- This was the first time since May 2014 South Alabama has been swept by a conference opponent at home.
- Ga'von Wray earned his seventh win of the year, pitching for a third of an inning. He came in at the bottom of the fourth inning, right before the Eagles scored four in the top of the fifth.
- Jay Thompson earned his sixth save of the season with 2.1 innings of work, only surrendering one hit and striking out two.
- JP Tighe had his first start since March 6 and made his presence known immediately. Tighe hit a single on his first at-bat and hit a two-RBI home run to left center to give GS the lead on his second time up.
- The Eagles have swept a second consecutive Sun Belt Conference series and have swept their third conference opponent this season.
