New Orleans, La. --- A pair of Georgia Southern baseball freshman in Brady Christman and Bennett Edwards have received All-Conference honors, as announced by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday afternoon (May 18th).
Brady Christman was named as the 2026 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, First-Team All Conference at the DH spot and the All-Freshman team. He becomes the first Eagle since Chase Griffin in 2012 to be named conference Freshman of the Year and the first by a Southern player in the Sun Belt era.
As a true freshman, Christman leads the Sun Belt in SLG (.719), OBP (.480) and OPS (1.199) while also being second in batting average (.384). He ranks in the top-50 in all of Division I in those four categories. His four triples on the year leads the team and also ties him for second in the Sun Belt, all of which coming in the last 20 days. Along with his 32-game on-base streak, his 23-game hit streak is tied for the second longest by a Sun Belt player this season, and is the fifth-highest in Georgia Southern history. In just 39 starts for Christman, he has 13 multi-hit games, including five of which in going for three or more base knocks, and 13 multi-RBI games in which he leads the team with. He had multi-hit games that included a homer against both Marshall and Troy earlier this season before homering in back-to-back games at Texas State to start April. Just a week later, Christman homered in four straight contests, all against conference opponents in the entire South Alabama series and the first contest against ODU. In those two series', he racked up nine hits and 10 RBIs. Finally, in back-to-back midweeks against Charleston Southern and Mercer, he combined to go a perfect 7-7 with six RBIs, a double, three triples, and two homers. Christman's twelve homers on the year leads the squad and is the second-most by a freshman in Georgia Southern history.
Bennett Edwards was also named to the Sun Belt All-Freshman team after being a mainstay catcher and leadoff batter for the Eagles in 2026.
In his first collegiate season, Edwards made noise by finishing with a .287 AVG and .381 OBP. At the midway point of the season, Edwards was batting .400 and was atop the league in multiple categories offensively. The Eagles' second-half leadoff man had 50 hits this year while also throwing out six runners from behind the dish defensively. Edwards broke onto the scene with a 2-2 day at South Florida on February 21st before mashing his first career homer against James Madison in only his second ever conference game. His bat caught fire in mid-march by starting a stretch of seven straight multi-hit games against all of James Madison, Marshall, Charleston Southern, College of Charleston and Troy. In the span, he went 15-28 with eight RBIs, a double and two homers. He ended his opening season with 15 multi-hit games, the fifth-most by an Eagle in 2026.
The Eagles concluded their 2026 season yesterday against Southern Miss and await for the 2027 campaign.
