Eagles Rally For 5-3 Win Over The Citadel

Georgia Southern takes its seventh-straight home midweek contest

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Baseball took advantage of a two out throwing error in the eighth inning to plate three runs in the frame and down The Citadel 5-3 on Tuesday night. The Eagles trailed 3-1 after six innings, but scored a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to improve to 24-17 on the year. Georgia Southern will play host to the College of Charleston on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. as the five-game homestand continues.

SCORING INNINGS
TOP 1ST | GS 0 - CIT 2 |
The Citadel was hot out of the gate, scoring a pair of runs off four hits in the opening frame. The Bulldogs got their hits to fall down the line and between the fielders to take an early lead.
BOT 1ST | GS 1 - CIT 2 | Steven Curry got a free base in the first inning when he was hit by the fourth pitch he saw. A wild pitch and a passed ball moved him around, while a Tyler Martin single to left plated the run and cut the lead in half.
TOP 4TH | GS 1 - CIT 3 | The Citadel got a leadoff single, followed by a double down the left field line that was misplayed, allowing an unearned run to score, pushing the lead to 3-1.
BOT 7TH | GS 2 - CIT 3 | A Blake Evans single with one out, followed by a stolen base got the Eagles in business in the seventh. Mason McWhorter drove in the freshman from second, cutting the lead to one in the late innings.
BOT 8TH | GS 5 - CIT 3 | A leadoff walk and a hit batter put ducks on the pond for the Eagles. Later in the inning with two outs, J.P. Tighe hit a soft ground ball to third which was thrown away, allowing pinch runner Mason Miller and Austin Thompson to score and put the Eagles on top 4-3. Evans followed suit and doubled to the gap in right, driving in an insurance run.
