Georgia Southern caps the regular season by playing three of its final four in Hanner Fieldhouse, beginning this Friday. The Eagles play host to Appalachian State Friday, Coastal Carolina Saturday and Georgia State next Tuesday.
The Eagles are coming off a 1-1 weekend in Arkansas, where they topped Arkansas State 3-2 and fell 3-0 to Little Rock. The win over the Red Wolves was Georgia Southern's first in a five-set match this year, improving its record to 1-4.
Madison Brown ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in assists (9.02 per set), Landon Jones ranks fifth in digs (4.31 per set) and Baylor Bumford ranks 10th in hitting percentage (.288). GS ranks sixth in digs as a team (14.92 per set) and sixth in blocks (1.89 per set).
Appalachian State has lost its last seven and is coming off a 3-1 setback at South Alabama. The Mountaineers are 3-8 on the road this season. App is 37-16 all-time against the Eagles, has won the last five meetings and is 9-1 against GS since both schools joined the Sun Belt in 2014, including a 3-1 decision back on Sept. 29 in the Holmes Center.
First-year Georgia Southern head coach Chad Willis and assistant coach Taylor Sherwin came to Statesboro from Appalachian State. Willis spent six seasons there during which Appalachian State posted 100 wins, notched 20-plus victories three times, advanced to the Sun Belt championship twice and earned a bid to the 2018 National Invitational Volleyball Championship. Sherwin was an assistant coach for the last three campaigns.
Coastal Carolina has lost three of its last four and is coming off a 3-2 setback at Troy. The Chanticleers are 16-2 all-time against the Eagles and have won all eight matches since joining the Sun Belt in 2016, including a 3-0 victory back on Sept. 27 in Conway. Coastal Carolina is 9-1 in road matches this season.
Senior Night ceremonies will take place prior to the match against the Chants, and GS will honor seniors Kendall Adams, Kacey Baker, Brooke Birch, Kali Cahill, Carly Turner and Ryan Tuten.
