The Eagles finished third in the Sun Belt in 2016-17.
STATESBORO, Ga. – Men's basketball coach Mark Byington announced today that David Lee Jones has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Georgia Southern and play for the Eagles in the 2017-18 season.
A 6-foot guard, Jones joins the Eagles after a season at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Fla., and will be a sophomore in eligibility at Georgia Southern. Jones averaged 14.7 points, 5.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals a game last season and led the Saints to an 18-11 record. He shot 52 percent from the field and 42 percent from 3-point range.
"David is a guy who is versatile and can score points in a variety of ways," said Byington. "He is very athletic, and we believe he will become a great defender who will be able to guard multiple positions. He had a very successful year at Sante Fe, and we feel he can come in and have an immediate impact on the program. He is an outstanding addition to our team."
The Georgia Southern men's basketball program continued its upward arc in 2016-17. The Eagles improved their overall record (18-15) and Sun Belt record (11-7), finished third in the conference and played in the postseason for the first time since 2006 and just the seventh time in the Division I era. GS returns all five starters and all nine student-athletes in the rotation to the 2017-18 roster.
