Setting the Scene
• Georgia Southern opens a two-game homestand by playing host to Tennessee Wesleyan Saturday at 5 p.m.
• After finishing a stretch in which they played four games in six days at Bradley Saturday, the Eagles are playing two contests in 14 days.
• This is the first meeting against Tennessee Wesleyan since Feb. 1, 1969, a 78-73 GS win on the road.
• The Eagles lead the all-time series, which began in 1965, 4-3 and have won the last three. GS is 2-1 against Tennessee Wesleyan at home.
• Georgia Southern posted double-digit wins in Hanner Fieldhouse for the third straight season, finishing with a 10-3 record in 2016-17. Georgia Southern is 35-9 in Hanner Fieldhouse in its last 44 contests there and 42-15 under Mark Byington
• The Eagles are coming off a 62-57 loss at Bradley last Saturday and have dropped their last two.
• Five of GS's seven games have been decided by five points or less, including the last four, and four have been one-possession games.
•  GS started 5-0 for the first time since the 1991-92 season. 
• The Eagles have been one of the youngest teams in the country the last two years, and for the second year in a row, Georgia Southern returned 94 percent of its scoring and all five starters, including first-team All-Sun Belt selections Ike Smith and Tookie Brown
• GS was picked fourth and Brown, Smith and Mike Hughes were named all-conference in the Sun Belt Preseason Poll, which is voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
• As of Nov. 27, the Eagles are ranked 17th in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major top-25. Gonzaga is ranked first, UTA is ranked fourth, Louisiana is 12th, Georgia State is 22nd and Missouri State is 18th.
• Tennessee Wesleyan has lost its last five contests and hosts Milligan tonight.
