The Eagles picked up a 5-2 win in South Carolina
CLINTON, S.C.- The Georgia Southern women's tennis team got back on track on Saturday, defeating Presbyterian 5-2 after coming off of a loss last week to bring their spring season record to 2-1.
"I very proud of our team and the fight they showed on the court today," head coach Michele Stanford said. "We knew that PC would be a tough team to beat this year, and each individual on our team knew they had to remain focused on using their strengths to attack their opponent's weaknesses."
The Eagles started off strong, winning the third line of doubles but couldn't grab the other two matches. But despite being behind 1-0 early, the Blue and White rallied to win five out of six singles matches.
"Although we lost a tight doubles point early on in the match, I was impressed with how our team bounced back and changed the tempo of the match so quickly," Stanford said.
Giulia Riepe (No.1) picked up the first point after taking down Ferrari of Presbyterian in straight sets. Mary Phillips Smith and Lindsay Truscott finished off their opponents next, before Mariana Ranzahuer lost to a tough line-two Johnson. However, both Emilia Bujan (No.4) and Francisca Norregaard (No.5) battled back to earn singles points after losing the first set. Norregaard, who earned her first singles win of the spring, contributed the team win to just that—the team.
"We really came together as a team and competed for each other," Norregaard said. "The energy was great and we were all very supportive both on and off court. Our team chemistry was unbelievable and we are confident we will keep getting better from here."
