Eagles to Honor Over 200 Student-Athletes Thursday

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Athletics will honor over 200 student-athletes for being Scholar Athletes in the fall, 2014 semester, at halftime of Thursday's men's basketball game against Troy.

The 202 student-athletes posted a 3.0 or better in the fall semester and will be recognized on the court with Georgia Southern president Dr. Brooks Keel, Provost Dr. Jean Bartels, Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Chris Geyerman and Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein for their academic achievements.

Among the student-athletes being honored are 72 Dean's List recipients and 40 members of the President's List, who recorded a perfect term GPA of 4.0.

"It is my privilege to honor these student-athletes for their academic achievement," said Kleinlein. "The fact that we have over 200 student-athletes performing at the 3.0 level or higher in the classroom indicates that academic achievement is a priority within the Georgia Southern Athletic Department and a vital part of the student-athlete experience at Georgia Southern University."

Tipoff for the men's basketball game is slated for 7:30 p.m. It's the second end of a doubleheader with the women's team, which takes on Troy at 5 p.m. It's Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day for both games - $5 general admission or $8 reserved tickets for Faculty/Staff and their family members with Georgia Southern ID.
