ATHENS, Ga.- The women's tennis team wrapped up their trip to the ITA Regionals on Saturday, with Giulia Riepe falling to North Florida's Michelle Valdez 6-3, 6-3 and Mariana Ranzahuer dropping out due to an injury. The Eagles were unable to get on the board this weekend as Mary Phillips Smith and Francisca Norregaard also dropped their qualifying matches on Thursday.
RESULTS
Singles- Saturday
Michelle Valdez (UNF) def. Giulia Riepe (GS) 6-3, 6-3
Alexandra Mercado (KSU) def. MAriana Ranzahuer (GS) due to injury
WHAT JUNIOR GIULIA RIEPE SAID
"I think we all learned a lot from this weekend and can take that into practice and look forward to playing the next tournament in North Carolina, where we will be playing schools that are just as good or even better than the ones we came across at regionals.
"I think we definitely have to work on our doubles and be more aggressive from the baseline and at the net and work on different strategies. I also think that we could have won some of the singles matches that we lost this weekend, but we will learn from our mistakes and keep our heads up to go positive into the next tournament.
"Individually I would say that I could have used the chances that I had this weekend, because the matches were close, but I will work more on taking those chances and sticking to my aggressive game during the next weeks to get ready for the spring!"
