
Men's Tennis Opens Second Weekend of Play Friday

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team returns to action after nearly two weeks off since they opened the season on Sept. 12. The opening weekend of play saw solid action from the Eagles, and head coach Nick Zieziula's squad is looking to improve in the second weekend of action. GSU will once again split the squad in two and will travel to the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational and Elon Fall Invitational.

Seniors Successful in Opening Weekend
Seniors Albert Codina Sala, Kyle Hoffman and Robbie Thompson all picked up wins in the opening weekend of play two weeks ago. Sala posted a win over Old Dominion's Theophile Lanthiez in the round of 16 before falling to UNC Wilmington's Xander Veys. Sala rounded out his weekend with a win over ODU's Zvonimir Podvinski in the consolation round. Hoffman fell in the first round but rallied with two-straight wins in the consolation bracket, while Thompson dropped a match in the quarterfinals and rounded out the Mercer Bear Gridiron Classic with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Middle Georgia State's Jake Hicks in the consolation.

Georgia Southern will hit the road for one more fall tournament in October before returning home to host the Georgia Southern Championships (10/24-26) and the Georgia Southern Round Robins (11/7-9).
Zieziula Marks Fifth Season at GSU
Georgia Southern's Nick Zieziula begins his fifth season at the helm of the men's tennis program. Zieziula joined the Eagles in the summer of 2010 after serving as an assistant coach at Central Florida for two seasons. Zieziula led the Eagles to one of the greatest turnarounds in program history, taking them from a 3-20 record in 2012 to an 11-9 mark in 2013, the first winning season since 2009.
