STORYLINES
  • The Georgia Southern Eagles enter the Tallahassee Regional as the No. 4 seed. The Eagles will face #4 Florida State at 6 p.m. on ESPN3.
  • Georgia Southern won its sixth Southern Conference Tournament Championship and first since 2011 last weekend. The Eagles played the maximum number of games, six, in the tournament.
  • GSU will make its 14th NCAA Regional Appearance this weekend. The Eagles last appeared in 2011 in the Columbia Regional and went 0-2 against South Carolina and N.C. State. 
  • Head Coach Rodney Hennon has led the Eagles to six Regional appearances and GSU is 3-9 in regional games under Hennon.
  • GSU is 17-28 all-time in NCAA Tournament play and has reached the College World Series twice in 1973 and 1990. The Eagles have never appeared in a NCAA Super Regional.
  • The Eagles are one win away from their first 40-win season since 2009. GSU has won 40 or more games nine times in its history, and Hennon has led the Eagles to 40 or more wins twice. 
  • GSU lost the SoCon Tournament opener to Appalachian State 3-2 in 11 innings on a home run but bounced back to eliminate top-seeded Western Carolina and Appalachian State to reach the semifinals. The Eagles defeated Furman twice on Saturday and rallied to win the championship game 4-3 on a Chase Griffin walk-off single.
  • Jason Richman was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after appearing in a league record six games. Richman found out after Wednesday's loss that his mom past away and elected to remain with his teammates in Charleston, S.C.
  • Georgia Southern and Florida State have not played since 1985 but have met 112 times in the all-time series. The last time the two teams met Jack Stallings was head coach of the Eagles. Stallings also served as head coach at Florida State from 1969-74.
  • After the Eagles' five game win streak and Southern Conference Tournament victory, Georgia Southern received a vote in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
  • GSU's offense ranks fourth in the nation in home runs and eighth in the NCAA in runs scored.

TEAM NOTES
  • The Georgia Southern Eagles rank 44th in the country in batting average (.289) and 42nd in the nation in ERA (3.17). 
  • Georgia Southern also ranks in the top-50 in a number of offensive categories. They rank 26th in walks (244), 28th in doubles (107), 15th in hits (603), 4th in home runs (59) and eighth in runs (401). 
  • The Eagles rank in the top four in the Southern Conference in batting average, slugging percentage and on base percentage. 
  • The GSU pitching staff leads the SoCon with a 3.17 ERA, which ranks third all-time in school history.
  • The pitching staff also leads the league in opponent batting average, innings pitched, fewest runs allowed and fewest walks allowed.
  • The Eagle pitching staff posted four shutouts during the regular season with three coming in league play against Furman and Western Carolina.
  • GSU has tallied 10 or more hits in four of their last seven games and has an extra base hit in six of their last seven games.
  • GSU has homered in eight of their last 10 games and hit four home runs in game two of the Southern Conference Tournament to eliminate top-seeded Western Carolina.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Six Eagles earned All-Southern Conference honors led by Josh Wirsu, who was named the league's Pitcher of the Year. Wirsu was also a First Team selection by both the media and coaches.
  • Jason Richman was a Second Team All-SoCon pick by the coaches, while Stryker Brown and Aaron Mizell were All-SoCon Second Team by the media. Garrett Chapman and Ryan Cleveland were both named to the league's All-Freshman team.
  • Four Eagles were named to the SoCon All-Tournament team, and Jason Richman was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
  • Chapman is seeking to become the first freshman since 1984 to lead the team in batting average. Chapman currently is hitting a team-best .346.
  • Aaron Mizell has recorded a hit in 11-straight games dating back to May 4th in the series finale at Furman. 
  • Stryker Brown also has a hit in his last nine games and has reached base in 25-straight games.
  • Ben Morgan ranks 10th in school history with 63 career stolen bases and needs just one more stolen base to tie Rob Fitzpatrick for 9th place.
  • Jason Richman ranks second all-time for single season ERA with a 1.06 ERA. Richman leads the nation in appearances and set a Socon Tournament record by appearing in six games last weekend. He also set a new school record for single-season appearances, shattering Tod Lee's record of 42 appearances set in 1997. 
  • Matt McCall is tied for seventh in school history with nine saves this season. He also ranks fifth in career saves with 13. 

CONNECTION JUNCTION
  • Jack Stallings was head coach of both the Georgia Southern Eagles and the Florida State Seminoles during his storied coaching career. Stallings served as head coach at Florida State from 1969-74 and head coach at GSU from 1976-99. He currently resides in Statesboro, Ga.
  • Florida State has three players that hail from the state of Georgia in Ed Voyles (Atlanta, Ga.), Brandon Leibrandt (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Jim Voyles (Atlanta, Ga.).
  • The Eagles have two players from the state of Florida in Dalton Busby (Bradenton, Fla.) and Byron Yelverton (Ponte Vedra, Fla.).
  • Tallahassee Community College graduates Nick Graganella and Patrick Riley will meet on the field Friday.
