Men’s Basketball Set to Face South Carolina State on Saturday

Eagles close a home-and-home series with afternoon matinee

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men's Basketball will face South Carolina State for the second-straight season on Saturday afternoon in a 2:30 p.m. contest. The game follows a Noon Women's Basketball game against Toccoa Falls. Fans can purchase a special $5 ticket to the game by showing their ticket to the Eagles' football game against UL Monroe. There will be no video streaming of the game, while the radio call will be exclusively on GS All-Access at GSEagles.com

TICKET SPECIAL FOR SATURDAY'S CONTEST
Saturday's game against South Carolina State will be an unprecedented afternoon for Georgia Southern Athletics with two basketball contests serving as appetizer for the final football contest of the year against UL Monroe. Fans can join in the celebration by showing their football ticket at Hanner to purchase a special $5 single game ticket for the roundball action.

HEWITT DROPS A BOATLOAD OF POINTS
Jelani Hewitt scored a season-best 33 points on Monday in the Eagles' victory over Florida International. It was the third time Hewitt has scored 30+ points in his career and the second-largest haul for the senior point guard from Miramar, Fla.

EAGLES LEAD NATION IN REBOUNDING MARGIN
Despite being undersized in both games against Division I opponents Georgia Southern has won the rebounding battle in all four contests this season. The Eagles are out-rebounding opponents by 16.8 rebounds per game and lead the nation. The Eagles won the battle of the glass by seven against Illinois and nine last time out against Florida International.

HEWITT AND WIEDEMAN NAMED PRESEASON ALL-SUN BELT
Georgia Southern picked up two of the 15 spots on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team when Jelani Hewitt and Trent Wiedeman earned slots on the honor roll.

BUSSEY EARNS SPOT IN NBADL
After being signed and waived on the same day by the Utah Jazz, former Eagle Tre Bussey has earned a spot on the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Developmental League. The Stampede opened the 2014-15 season on November 14th. Bussey is averaging 10.0 points per game through the season's first four games.

PUTTING IN THE MILES
Georgia Southern will travel more than 12,000 miles this season for the program's first season in the Sun Belt Conference. The season total of 12, 283 miles is just 168 miles fewer than half the circumference of the Earth. Last year the Eagles traveled 9,216 miles.

THE COACH
Head Coach Mark Byington enters this game with a 25-24 career record as in his second season with the Eagles.

THE WEATHER
Fans can escape cool conditions outside by watching the Eagles face South Carolina State. Conditions should be clear with temperatures in the mid-50s.

UP NEXT
After four-straight home games, Georgia Southern is back on the road for three road games along the I-4 corridor. The Eagles face Central Florida on Tuesday night before returning to the Sunshine state on December 15th and 18th.
