Fourth-year goalkeeper is enjoying a career season while enjoying making lasting memories in Statesboro
STATESBORO - For fourth-year goalkeeper and team co-captain Quinn Wilson, soccer has always been more than just a sport - it's been a way of life. Growing up in a family where the game was ever-present, Quinn found her passion early and never looked back. Surrounded by siblings who played and a mother who coached, she was immersed in the sport from her earliest memories. That foundation set the stage for a journey defined by family, gratitude and a love for the game that continues to shape her life at Georgia Southern.
"My siblings played as well, and my mom coached, so soccer was a huge part of my childhood and something I grew up surrounded by," Quinn said. That upbringing fostered a competitive spirit and a deep appreciation for the sport, guiding her toward a future she could envision clearly even as a young athlete.
Finding Her Path to Georgia Southern
Quinn's route to Georgia Southern women's soccer wasn't a typical one, but it was exactly where she was meant to be. When Coach Adams extended an opportunity, she embraced it wholeheartedly and made it her mission to prove his faith in her was well placed. "Coach Adams took a chance on me, and I've done my best every day to show that he made the right decision," she said.
Choosing Georgia Southern became a turning point in her life, opening doors to experiences and relationships she'll carry forever. The program provided not only a competitive environment to grow as an athlete but also a supportive community that felt like family from day one.
A Dual-Sport Athlete With One True Love
While soccer was always at the center of Quinn's world, she spent much of her life playing basketball as well. Balancing two sports helped shape her athleticism and work ethic, but it also clarified where her true passion lived. "I played basketball for most of my life alongside soccer, and I continued playing through my junior year of high school. While I loved basketball, it never compared to the passion I had for soccer," she said.
That clarity fueled her commitment, motivating her to dedicate more time and energy to the game she loved most. The decision to focus on soccer became the foundation for her collegiate journey, and the choice has paid dividends both on and off the field.
Quinn has recorded at least one shutout in all four seasons she has played for the Eagles. The Sun Belt Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on August 18, Quinn is already enjoying a career year in the net this season, going 4-0-2 with an 0.50 GAA. Her 34 saves ranks fourth in NCAA Division I and her .919 save percentage could be a herald of something greater - that number also happens to be the area code of Cary, N.C., where the NCAA Division I College Cup is held.
Off the field, Quinn has excelled in her sport management major, twice earning Sun Belt Conference Academic Commissioner's List honors and once earning Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll accolades.
