Georgia Southern now 4-0-2 on the year, matching 2012 team for second-best start in program history

MURRAY, Ky. - Georgia Southern women's soccer equaled the second-best start in program history after notching a 1-0 win over Murray State on Sunday afternoon in Murray, Ky.

In the first meeting between the two teams, the Eagles collected the win thanks to Addison Comer's goal in the 26th minute, assisted by Emma Chapman. The 4-0-2 start for Georgia Southern this season matches the 4-0-2 start by the 2012 team that eventually won the SoCon Tournament Championship. The best start in program history was a 9-0 start by the 2000 team.

Murray State falls to 0-4-1 with the loss. In addition to the first meeting between the two teams, it was also the first contest played by Georgia Southern in the state of Kentucky.

The Eagles finished the day with a 19-14 edge in shots. Goalkeeper Quinn Wilson made four saves in net to record her third shutout of the season.

The winning goal came off the foot of the fourth-year forward Comer. A through ball from midfield found the foot of Comer in the box, and she deftly maneuvered between a pair of Racer defenders to beat Murray State goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio inside the right post for her second goal of the season.

Each team had three corner kicks on the day. Georgia Southern was whistled for 10 fouls and one offsides, compared to seven fouls and one offsides for Murray State.

"This road trip had a little bit of everything!" Georgia Southern head women's soccer coach Chris Adams said about the week's play at Mercer and then at Murray State. "Whether it was kicking off at 10:50 p.m. on Thursday night or finishing the Mercer game at 12:44 a.m. Friday morning; or arriving at our hotel in Dalton at 4:15 a.m., our players just rolled with it! I think unplugging Friday and having a recovery day both mentally and physically in Nashville was the right call. We enjoyed our Friday night's dinner at Luke and Caroline Bryan's Bridge 32 Restaurant! We covered more than 1,200 miles and played against an opponent that we have never faced before. I'm extremely proud of our Road Warriors getting results in both of our matches this week!"

Georgia Southern will be next in action on Thursday, September 3, traveling to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on the University of Michigan in a 7 p.m. contest.
