Georgia Southern Falls to ULM in Series Opener

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern Eagles (16-19, 4-6 SBC) dropped its series opener to ULM, 5-2, on Thursday evening at Eagle Field.
ULM struck early and never trailed, opening the game with a solo home run from Morgan Brown in the first inning before creating separation in the fourth, stringing together five hits to plate three runs and build a 5-0 advantage.
The Eagles responded in the bottom half of the fourth.
After Delanie Thames reached and advanced into scoring position, Emma Davis delivered an RBI double to center field to put the Eagles on the board.
Later in the inning, Braelyn Queen produced a productive groundout to bring Davis home, cutting the deficit to three runs.
Senior Bailey Holland went the distance in the circle for Georgia Southern pitching a complete game (7), allowing five runs on nine hits while stranding seven runners.
Offensively, Queen led the Eagles with a 2-for-3 performance and an RBI, while Davis added a double and drove in a run.
The Eagles will look to bounce back and even the series in Game Two on Friday, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. ET.
