STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern Eagles (19-25, 6-11 SBC) lost a 6-3 tightly-contested decision to the Troy Trojans (27-17, 7-10 SBC) on Saturday, despite an early spark from Delanie Thames.

The Eagles struck first in the opening inning when Delanie Thames crushed a solo home run to deep left field. The homer – 10th of the season – gave Georgia Southern Eagles softball a quick 1–0 lead and continued her standout power production at the plate.

Georgia Southern added another run in the second inning, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and a timely RBI single from Semira Tigg to move ahead 2-1.

However, Troy answered in a decisive third inning, stringing together key hits, including a two-run double that helped swing momentum and put the Trojans in front 4-2.

From there, the Eagles struggled to generate consistent offense, finishing with just four hits on the day. They managed to trim the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Demere Gray, but Troy responded with two insurance runs in the seventh to seal the outcome.

RHP Bailey Holland went the distance in the circle for Georgia Southern, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits. Defensively, a pair of errors proved costly in key moments.

Thames' milestone home run stood as the highlight for the Eagles, marking her 21st long ball of her career and providing an early jolt, but Georgia Southern couldn't sustain enough offense to complete the upset.
