Late Inning Surge Lifts Troy Past Georgia Southern 4-2

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern Eagles (19-26, 6-12 SBC) lost a 4-2 decision to the Troy Trojans (28-17, 8-10 SBC) on Sunday, despite jumping out to an early lead and matching Troy with seven hits on the day.
The Eagles struck first in the opening inning. After Kayla Christensen reached and advanced into scoring position, Delanie Thames brought her home with an RBI groundout.
Later in the frame, Jaycee Bilbrey added an RBI single to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.
Troy answered in the second, before breaking through in the fifth inning.
Georgia Southern had chances to respond, most notably in the fifth inning when Thames laced a double to left-center – her 12th double of the season – to put a runner in scoring position.
However, the Eagles were unable to bring her home, as Troy escaped the inning and preserved the lead.
Christensen led the Eagles with two hits, while Demere Gray, Valerie Combs, Braelyn Queen, Thames and Bilbrey each added one.
