
Eagles Stumble to Jaguars, Fall 13-5

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Carter DeGondea started off his afternoon with a walk and a strikeout in the opening frame.
- In the bottom of the first, a leadoff single to short from Bennett Edwards before he advanced to third on a stolen base and deep fly ball. With two away, Bryson Trammell brought him home with a sharp grounder up the middle to make it 1-0 quickly.
- South Alabama responded in their second in a big way, After two hits, a bases-loaded walk plated one before a grand slam from Matthews made it 5-1.
- In the bottom of the third, the Eagles made a major push as James McCoy launched a 451 foot solo shot to right-center to start the inning.
- Two batters later, Bryson Trammell sliced his 13th double of the season down in the left field alley before Brady Christman sent him home from his second homer in as many days with a two-run shot that just missed the scoreboard to make it just 5-4.
- However, South Alabama answered back with a solo shot of their own from Rett Johnson to dead center, making it 6-4.
- In the Jaguars' fifth, they upped their lead to three after Guerin ripped his 13th homer of the year, making it 7-4.
- Once again, the Eagles responded back as after a Trammell walk, back-to-back singles from Christman and Jack Myers plated one, giving Jack his first hit of the afternoon and an RBI.
- Johnson hit his second homer of the day with one away in the top of the sixth, before an RBI-double from Wright later in the frame extended the Jags' lead to 9-5.
- South Alabama scored in their fourth straight inning by plating four in their seventh off of five hits to extend their lead to the largest of the weekend, 13-5.
- The Eagles could only muster two hits from the sixth inning onwards, eventually stranding two in the ninth to even the series.
NOTES:
- Bennett Edwards got back on track with his first multi-hit game since March 31st at North Florida.
- The four/five duo of Trammell and Christman in the lineup produced again, each slapping two hits with three RBIs.
- The ending trio of Jayden White, Thomas Burke and Connor Fugate combined to toss 2.2 scoreless innings and just gave up three hits.
- Burke himself tossed two Ks in the eighth., his most in his last three outings.
UP NEXT:
- The Eagles and Jaguars conclude the series with a rubber match tomorrow (April 12th) for Masters Day at J.I. with first pitch set for 1 PM.
