THE OPENING TIP
THE OPENING TIP
- Tyren Moore continues to shine in his final days as an Eagle, scoring 26 points against Marshall in the second contest against the Herd this season. Moore combined to score 58 total points against the Herd this year, including making 16 three-pointers, setting and tying a career high in the span of two weeks. Moore, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, spent two seasons with head coach Charlie Henry, before transferring to UAB for his senior year. For the 2025-26 season, he returned to Statesboro to lead a team filled with new faces. Moore knocked down eight consecutive makes from beyond the arc in game two against Marshall. With his outing against Marshall, Moore passed Willie Powers III (2007-12) for D1 points at Georgia Southern, 18th out of 29 players. Additionally, Moore leads the Eagles with 94 made three-pointers after tying a career high eight made against the Thundering Herd. The 94 made this season, passes Charlton Young (1992-93) for 3rd most in a single season, chasing Antonio Hanson (100) and Elton Nesbitt (103). With 226 career three-pointers made in a Georgia Southern uniform, Moore passed Julius Jenkins for 6th all-time in program history and is chasing Charlton Young (1989-93 – 241).
- Senior forward Shainen Carter sits in eighth all-time in a single season for blocks, recording one against Georgia State on Thursday. Carter needs two blocks to continue to climb the top 10 list, chasing Montae Glenn (2017-18), who recorded 42.
- Georgia Southern's offensive production jumped above 80-plus points per game once again this season after a 99-point outburst against Marshall. The Eagles have produced 2,493 total points this season (80.4 ppg) and are fourth in the Sun Belt Conference. Ahead of Georgia Southern is Arkansas State (83.2), Marshall (81.2), and Troy (80.5). The 2,493 total points entering Wednesday's contest are the fourth most points in the league. If the Eagles continue to score at the rate they are this season, the 80.4 points per game would be tied for 9th-most in Georgia Southern history. Additionally, Georgia Southern needs 13 points to move into 3rd-most in program history, set by the 2004-05 squad with 2,506 (31 games).
- March Madness officially begins this week in Pensacola, as Georgia Southern forced its way out of the bottom four teams and earned the 10 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, hosted at the Pensacola Bay Center, in Pensacola, Florida. The Eagles will face the winner of the ULM and Old Dominion game on Tuesday evening. The road ahead isn't easy, as Georgia Southern would have to win six games in six days, but the revenge tour beings on Wednesday evening. The Blue and White's side of the bracket features Arkansas State, South Alabama, Coastal Carolina, and Marshall.
- Georgia Southern men's basketball has been one of the more prolific scoring teams in the Sun Belt Conference since joining the league during the 2014-15 season. In the 12 years since the Eagles' arrival, Georgia Southern has posted a 45-3 record when scoring 90-plus points in a game. For the 2025-26 season, the Eagles have secured a 10-0 record when tallying 90-plus points per game and are now 2-0 this season when scoring 100-plus points.
