
Applewhite and Webb Guide Eagles to 88-84 Victory Over Old Dominion

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Graduate Spudd Webb and redshirt senior Alden Applewhite combined to score 56 of the 88 points the Eagles had on Wednesday evening, helping guide Georgia Southern to victory over Old Dominion and advance to the third round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
Applewhite's 27 points on Wednesday night were the most in a single game by the Memphis, Tennessee, native. Applewhite scored 18-first half points, before adding nine points in the second half on 8-of-11 shooting. Webb joined his teammate with 29 points, shooting 9-of-15 and knocking down a team high nine free throws.
Old Dominion continued to fight down the stretch, as Jordan Battle scored a Sun Belt Championship record 45 points on 11-of-18 shooting, 8-of-10 from beyond the arc, and 15-of-16 from the line.

- Georgia Southern regained the lead at the under-eight-minute media timeout, after Tyren Moore drained his second three-pointer of the evening, 27-25.
- At the final media timeout, Georgia Southern held a two-point advantage, following Alden Applewhite's fifth three-pointer of the first half, 35-32.
- Spudd Webb put an exclamation point on the first half, driving the lane and slamming home the ball, 39-37.
- ODU opened the second half making 5-of-6 field goals, cutting the Eagles lead down to two points, 52-50.
- Tyren Moore gave the Eagles a five-point lead heading to the under-12-minute media timeout, draining his third three-pointer of the night, 59-54.
- The Eagles stretched their lead to the largest of the night, 14 points, as Spudd Webb and Alden Applewhite both have scored 20-plus points, 69-55.
- The Monarchs used an 8-0 run over the next two minutes of action to cut the Eagles lead to six, 71-65, which included double technical fouls called on both sides.
- With just over a minute remaining in the game, Shainen Carter knocked down two free throws, before ODU hit a three-pointer, cutting the lead to five, 83-78.
