HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The second batter of the game saw James McCoy slap a double into the gap before a two-out weak flair into the outfield from Bryson Tramell brought him home.
- The Cougars mirrored it early with a first pitch double from Amman.
- An infield single from Bennett Edwards increased hit hit streak to six in the second frame. After a successful hit and run, Jack Myers drove him home with a poke through the right side of the infield to make it 2-0.
- Three straight scoreless frames from the arm of Alex Mason send the Eagles into the middle innings.
- Back-to-back leadoff singles from Brady Christman and Edwards eventually led to another RBI-single off the bat of Myers before a sac-bunt scored Edwards from second to make it 4-0.
- Two walks and a groundout loaded the bags with two away in the Cougar fifth. After entering, Craig Kalkbrenner enters and throws just one pitch to force a groundout and leave the bases loaded.
- In the Cougar sixth, five hits aided in scoring two runs to make it 4-2, but a groundout to second left the bases stranded for the second straight inning.
- Brady Pendley entered for the Eagles in the seventh and shut the Cougar bats down. The senior captain went three full innings, including retiring nine straight batters, while striking out four to claim his first save of the season.
- Southern stamped home the win after Bryson Trammell scored from a Cougar error in the eighth before Pendley closed the door in the ninth.
NOTES:
- McCoy's double now makes it eleven for him on the season, good for second in the Sun Belt behind Texas State's Rashawn Galloway.
- Myers tied a career-high three hits on the evening, all of which came in his first three ABs of the night.
- Mason had a good outing as the starter tonight, throwing three full innings of scoreless baseball with three strikeouts. The only hit he allowed came on the first pitch of the contest before he retired nine of the next ten batters.
- Trammell's double also ties him with McCoy for the second-most in the Sun Belt with now eleven on the campaign.
- Edwards' two singles now gives him six straight contests with multiple hits, including seven of his last eight games.

- The Eagles kick off a three-game conference series with Troy starting on Friday. First pitch for Friday Night Smackdown at J.I. is set for 6:30 PM.
