STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern Eagles (12-13, 1-2 SBC) fell to the James Madison Dukes (13-12, 2-1 SBC), 9-3, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles struck first, plating a pair of runs on Valerie Combs' two-run home run in the second inning to take an early lead. The Dukes answered in the top of the third, trimming the deficit to one run.
Georgia Southern continued to battle at the plate and eventually got runners on through the middle innings. However, James Madison used a strong offensive stretch late in the game, scoring multiple runs across several innings to break things open and extend the lead to 9-3.
The Eagles collected several hits throughout the afternoon and showed flashes offensively while continuing to apply pressure on the bases. Defensively, Georgia Southern worked through multiple scoring threats to limit further damage against the Dukes' lineup – leaving seven runners on for JMU.
With the result, the Eagles conclude their Sun Belt Conference series with James Madison and will look to regroup on the road against Marshal, as they continue conference play on March 20-22.
