COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Georgia Southern Eagles (12-15) dropped a midweek contest, 3-13, on the road to No. 21 South Carolina Gamecocks (20-10) Wednesday night.
South Carolina controlled the game early and never looked back, capitalizing on timely hitting and limiting the Eagles' offensive opportunities throughout the contest. Georgia Southern was held in check at the plate, unable to string together enough offense against the Gamecocks' pitching staff.
Freshman Saige Herbst delivered her first career hit, driving in Delanie Thames and Emma Davis with a two-run single.
The Gamecocks entered the matchup ranked No. 21 nationally and improved on a strong season mark, continuing their dominance in the all-time series, which they lead 45-1.
Despite the result, the Eagles continued to test themselves against top-tier competition, facing another ranked opponent in a challenging road environment.
Georgia Southern will look to bounce back quickly as it returns to Sun Belt Conference play this weekend.
