
RedHawks Claim 78-67 MAC/SBC Challenge Win Over Eagles

Georgia Southern returns home on Wednesday, hosting first place Arkansas State at 5 PM
OXFORD, Ohio - The second leg of the MAC/SBC Challenge went the way of host Miami of Ohio Redhawks with a 78-67 win over vsiiting Georgia Southern women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall.
The RedHawks (19-4) won their 12th straight contest and remained an unbeaten 10-0 at home, while Georgia Southern falls to 17-6, seeing their four-game win streak come to a close.
Miami jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the game's first four minutes and shot 50 percent from the field to take a 21-15 lead after the first period. Jamiria Jones scored seven straight points for the Eagles midway through the second quarter as Georgia Southern cut two points into the deficit, going into halftime down 38-34.
In the third quarter, the Eagles scored the first seven points of the half, capped by a Kayla Cleaveland three-pointer that gave Georgia Southern a 41-38 lead, but Miami turned to leading scorer Amber Tretter, who scored eight points in the final half of the quarter to give the RedHawks a 58-50 lead at the end of three.
The RedHawks then opened the fourth quarter with five straight points to go on to the double-digit victory. It was only Georgia Southern's second loss in the MAC/SBC Challenge since the series was introduced during the 2023-24 season.
McKenna Eddings led a quartet of Georgia Southern players in double figures with 19 points. Kishyah Anderson added 14 points, while Destiny Garrett and Jones finished with 12 apiece. Tretter notched a game-high 32 points to lead Miami.
Eagle of the Game
Jones played a career-high 28 minutes and notched her career-high of 12 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers on the day. She added four rebounds and two steals.
Stat of the Game
Miami shot 50.9 percent from the field (29-of-57), the first time that an opponent has shot 50 percent or better against the Eagles since the Nov. 9 game at home against No. 5 LSU.

"I think we lost our way a little bit with our defensive gameplan. We knew they were going to be able to go inside, but they average 16 assists and nine threes made a game so that's the route we wanted to go and we were going to leave them one-on-one down there. At critical times, we just didn't stick to our plan."

Georgia Southern returns to the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center for four straight home games, beginning with a Wednesday, February 11 contest against Arkansas State that was originally scheduled for January 31. The game will be at 5 p.m. ET and will be a doubleheader with the men's team, who plays App State at 8 p.m.
