PREVIEW: Eagles Head to Macon for Clash With Bears

MACON, GA. – The Eagles hit the road again on Wednesday, Feb. 17, making the short trip down the street to Sikes Field in Macon, Georgia to face the Mercer Bears.
Head coach Chris Kuhlmeyer's squad returns a strong core from last year's team that finished 40-26 and made an NCAA regional appearance, bringing back seven key contributors from that deep postseason group.
In conference forecasts, Mercer is expected to be a contender in Southern Conference play this season following their first-ever SoCon Tournament title run in 2025, a historic year that saw them capture the league crown and finish with a strong overall mark.
The all-time series has long favored Georgia Southern, with the Eagles holding a commanding 60-22 advantage, including a solid 24-12 mark on the road in Macon. Despite that historical edge, recent results have tilted toward Mercer, as the Bears claimed both meetings during the 2025 season, adding a layer to a rivalry that has traditionally belonged to the Eagles.
Wednesday's matchup presents a measuring stick for the Eagles as they face a Bears roster that blends postseason experience with early-season momentum – a challenge that could set the tone for both teams as the conference slate nears.
