Georgia Southern avenges double overtime road loss to the Monarchs; best home winning streak for GS since 2010-11
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's basketball delivered a convincing 77-60 win over visiting Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center, continuing its best Sun Belt start to a season.
The Eagles (12-4, 5-1 SBC) also avenged a double overtime loss to the Monarchs (10-7, 2-3 SBC) just 10 days ago. Georgia Southern stretches its win streak at The Hill to eight straight, the longest home winning streak for the Eagles since the team won nine straight during the 2010-11 campaign.
A back and forth first quarter saw the Eagles take a three-point lead, 18-15, after one. But Georgia Southern clamped down defensively, holding ODU to just three field goals in an eight-point second quarter to take a 35-23 lead into halftime.
Georgia Southern then clinched the victory over the Monarchs by shooting 53.3 percent (16-of-30) in the second half as Old Dominion never got closer than seven points after the break.
Destiny Garrett had a game-high 23 points for the Eagles, while Kishyah Anderson added 22 points and nine rebounds. McKenna Eddings added 18 points, knocking down 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Simaru Fields and Simone Cunning ham each had 15 points apiece to lead Old Dominion.

Stat of the Game
The Eagles went a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line on the day, which is the first time that Georgia Southern has been perfect from the line since making 7-of-7 against App State on February 23, 2019.
Quotables
Head coach Hana Haden on the keys to the victory over the Monarchs
"We had a few things on our game plan today and I thought out team did a really incredible job of executing. ODU is a really good rebounding team and we knew that we were going to have to a good job on the glass, so to be able to win the rebounding battle by 13 was huge. We also knew we had to guard the three-point line and we were able to hold them to 3-of-13, and of their two main three-point shooters, only one of them hit one."
On the turnaround after a huge win over conference favorite JMU
"We're not satisfied with just beating JMU. We want to be at the top of this league and we know it's going to be a huge challenge night in and night out. So I'm proud of them for the way they could turn their focus to ODU and get this done today."

The Eagles embark on a four-game road swing, starting with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Georgia State on Wednesday, January 14, in Atlanta.
