Georgia Southern downs Panthers 66-55
ATLANTA - Georgia Southern women's basketball continued its winning ways, delivering a 66-55 win over in-state rival Georgia State on Wednesday evening at the GSU Convocation Center. The win was the Eagles' fourth in a row as they continued their best Sun Belt start to a season.
The win moved the Eagles to 13-4, 6-1 in the Sun Belt while Georgia State fell to 6-11, 1-4 in the conference. Georgia Southern swept the season series with the Panthers with the win.
The Panthers jumped out to a 7-1 lead early in the first quarter, but a pair of 3-pointers from McKenna Eddings and one from Destiny Garrett sparked them to a 12-9 lead after the first stanza. The Eagles used three 3-pointers from Kyla Bryant and held the Panthers to 36% shooting in the second quarter to take a nine-point lead into the locker room.
The Eagles went on a 7-0 run to end the third quarter, shooting 71% in the frame and outscoring the Panthers by 10 to stretch their lead to 19. The Eagles grabbed eight rebounds and made five free throws in the fourth quarter to put the game away. After shooting 33% in the first half, the Eagles rebounded to shoot 55% in the second half and held the Panthers to 43% shooting for the game with 17 turnovers.
Five Eagles scored in double figures. Eddings led the way with 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers while Kayla Cleaveland and Bryant (career-high four 3s) both had 12 points. Kishyah Anderson and Garrett (team-high seven assists) both had 10 points. After falling behind early, the Eagles led for the final 30:34 of the game, leading by as many as 21 points.

McKenna Eddings drained five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 17 points while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds in leading the Eagle charge. Eleven of her 17 points and three of her five long balls came in the second half when the Eagles pulled away. She played 39 of the game's 40 minutes and picked up just one foul.
