ULM Takes Series With 9-6 Win Over Eagles

Eagles drop first series of the season
MONROE, La. – Georgia Southern softball dropped its first series of the season with a 9-6 loss to ULM in game two on Friday night at the ULM Softball Complex.
Georgia Southern (27-19, 11-6 SBC) jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first scoring two runs on two hits. For the second consecutive game, Emma Davis led off the game with a base hit before then moving into scoring position on a Valerie Combs sacrifice bunt. Faith Barth tallied her eighth double of the season to plate the Eagles first run of the inning before Gracie Bellard recorded an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.
ULM (32-16, 12-5) cut into deficit in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI hit by pitch, making it 2-1. The Warhawks looked to even things up in the second with a pair of singles but Morgan Kendrick entered in relief to retire the side and get out of the jam.
The Eagles doubled its lead in the fourth scoring two runs on four hits. Semira Tigg led off the inning with her second collegiate hit for the start of four consecutive hits. Brooke Kell and Madison Humber tallied infield singles to load the bases for Davis who then singled back up the middle to plate the pair of runs.
The Warhawks answered with five runs on five hits in the third to take the lead, 6-4. ULM would go on to score three more runs in the final two innings.
Georgia Southern pushed two runs across in the top of the seventh to get within three on an pinch hit two-RBI double by Braelyn Queen but the Warhawks got out of it to take the series.
Bailey Holland made her 16th start of the season tossing just 1.1 innings allowing one run on three hits. Kendrick pitched 2.1 innings in relief allowing five runs on six hits to pick up the loss. Maddie Johnson tossed the final 2.1 innings.
Seven of the nine Eagle batters tallied hits led by Davis going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

The Eagles are set for the final game of the series against ULM on Saturday at noon at ULM Softball Complex. Game three will be streamed on ESPN+.
