Eagles Show Out at Loaded Gamecock Invitational

Columbia, SC — The Georgia Southern team finished sixth of nine teams at the Gamecock Invitational with numerous PBs set all around.

The meet started off with a bang on Wednesday as Sterling Burd cemented herself in the B Final for the 100 Fly, where she would swim a 55.46 en route to not only placing 13th in the event, but also completed the fourth fastest 100 Fly mark in program history.

The 400 IM saw Sarah Luskus swim a career best 4:22.16 in the 400 IM, finishing just outside the top-20 of the field. The duo of Carsyn Cosman and Jamison Tiller would find success in the 200 Free, as while Jamison finished in the top-25, Carsyn would advance to the B Final with her 18th-place finish. In the finals, they both set PBs as Carsyn finished 16th with her time of 1:52.02, while Jamison finished just two spots and under half a second behind her at 1:52.47.

In the 200 Medley Relay, the squad of Calissa Kissinger, Luskus, Burd, and Cosman would find a new top time of 1.45.39 to finish 17th in the finals. In the 100 Back finals, another duo would place inside the top-20 as Scout Chapin and Kissinger placed 17th and 18th with their times of 56.46 and 56.48, respectively. In the 500 Free, Burd finished in the top-25 for both the prelims and the finals with her best time of the day coming in at 5:04.45.

In the 50 Free, Alex Pope would have a career day, setting a new best high with her 24.15 to snag a top-30 finish in the event. In the 200 Free Relay, the team of Tiller, Pope, Kissinger and Cosman would soar to a twelfth place finish and their new best time of 1.35.93. Similarly, the 400 Medley Relay top team came in 14th with their time of 3.50.19.

On the final day, Scout Chapin impressed the crowd with her top-15 finishes in both the prelims and finals of the 200 IM, with her new PB time of 2:06.83. A top-20 finish in the 100 Free from Carsyn Cosman gave her the motivation to show out in the finals, shaving nearly half a second off her prelim time and leaping six spots into 14th with her 51.30. In the 200 Fly, Sterling Burd had top-ten finishes in both times swimming it on the day, with her best time of 2:03.31. To close out the meet, the 400 Free relay team of Tiller, Pope, Chapin, and Cosman combined to swim a blistering 3:26.03 en route to a ninth-place finish.

The Eagles next take the pool as both the swim and dive teams come together to compete against UNC-Asheville on the road this upcoming December 12th and 13th.
