STATESBORO - Georgia Southern junior
Aaron James Williams has been named the first Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the Spring 2025 season, announced today by league officials.
Williams enjoyed a strong 3-1 start to the Spring season in singles as Georgia Southern opened up the year on the road in Florida. He went 2-1 with wins over Alabama State's Alexandre Verlaguet 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) and FGCU's Jonathan Baron, 6-1, 6-2. On Monday, he picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 win over No. 24 Florida's JanMagnus Johnson in Gainesville.
The Dusseldorf, Germany, native also teamed with Laurent Julia Calac to notch a 6-3 doubles win over the Gators' duo of Johnson and Adhithya Ganesan.
This is the second career Sun Belt weekly honor for Williams, who was also the league's Player of the Week on March 13, 2024. The second-team All-Sun Belt singles honoree a year ago is 11-5 in singles play during the 2024-25 campaign.
Williams and the Eagles are in action this weekend in Oxford, Miss., taking on South Alabama in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, then facing either Ole Miss or Tulane on Sunday.
