STATESBORO - South Alabama men's tennis halted a seven-match win streak for No. 70 Georgia Southern with a 4-1 win over the Eagles on Sunday afternoon at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Eagles dropped their first match of the season at home, falling to 11-8 overall and 5-1 in the Sun Belt. South Alabama improves to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the league with the victory. Georgia Southern plays its final two matches of the regular season on the road next week, beginning on Saturday at Southern Miss in an 11 a.m. ET match.
South Alabama took the doubles point from the Eagles with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The two teams then split the first sets in the six singles matches.
The Jaguars took a 2-0 lead with a straight-set win at No. 5 singles, but Pol del Castillo made the score 2-1 with a straight-set win of his own, 6-4, 6-3, over Jack Clements at No. 2 singles. With the Eagles leading in the other two matches on the court, South Alabama clinched with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles and a three-set win at No. 6 singles.
