STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team's comeback fell short against Troy on Sunday morning at Beautiful Eagle Field falling 8-7 in game three of the series as Troy takes the series two games to one.
Georgia Southern (23-20, 6-12 SBC) looked to make a comeback in the seventh inning trailing by three heading into the inning.
Faith Barth led off the inning with a hit by pitch before
Janai Conklin blasted a two-run home run to left center field for her fourth bomb of the season. But three quick outs ended the Eagles' chances to make the final score 8-7.
Troy (31-17, 11-7 SBC) struck first in the third frame on an RBI triple to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Eagle responded in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs to take the lead 2-1.
Kyla Maxwell was hit by a pitch and
Emma Davis and
Katie Perkins recorded back-to-back singles to load the bases.
Faith Barth recorded an RBI fielder's choice to plate a run and an Trojan error on the play scored Davis for the go ahead run.
The Trojans would retake the lead in the fourth scoring five runs on three hits making the score 6-2 after the fourth inning.
The Eagles inched its way back into the game scoring in both the fifth and sixth innings. Maxwell scored on a
Katie Perkins RBI groundout to cut into the deficit in half in the fifth.
Delanie Thames got the offense going in the sixth leading off the inning with an infield single before
Dejah Mills drew a base hit to put runners on.
Gracie Bellard loaded the bases with a hit by pitch before Maxwell drew the second consecutive hit by pitch to score Thames. Davis drew a five-pitch walk to plate the Eagles final run of the inning making it 8-5.
Starting pitcher
Morgan Kendrick tossed 3.1 innings allowing two runs on one hit with a strikeout. In relief,
Kyleigh Richardson suffered the loss in the circle for the Eagles.
Five Eagles each recorded a hit in the contest as the Eagles left six runners on base.

The Eagles final midweek game of the season will be played on Wednesday, April 24 at College of Charleston with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. before hosting its final home conference series April 26-28 against James Madison.
