Three-Run Sixth Inning Pushes Softball Past Panthers

Eagles set for doubleheader on Sunday

STATESBORO – Georgia Southern softball (18-10, 2-2 SBC) used a three-run sixth inning to push past the Panthers 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Beautiful Eagle Field.

Georgia State got on the board first in the second frame, but the Eagles responded in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs. Back-to-back sacrifice flies from Dejah Mills and Courtney Ball plated the runs to put the Eagles in front 2-1.

After three scoreless innings, the Eagles extended its lead in the sixth scoring three runs on three hits and two Panther errors. Emma Davis recorded an RBI-fielder's choice to score Kelsey Harper and Gracie Bellard who reached on an error and single, respectively. Delanie Thames kept the rally going scoring Davis on an RBI-single making it 5-1.

Anslie Pettit tossed her ninth complete game of the season surrendering one run on three hits and fanning six Panther batters.

Katie Perkins, Bellard, and Davis each recorded a multi-hit performance with two hits each to lead the Eagle offense.
