Track and Field Sets Meet Record, Claims Three Event Titles

Eagles take three titles at the Sun Belt Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – NaJ Watson claimed the 200m title, Alanna Smith secured the 400m title, and the 4x400 relay team set a meet record as the Georgia Southern track and field team finished sixth at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Tuesday at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The 4x400 relay team took first place and set both a meet and school record. The squad of Sofia Molina, Lauren Euler, Smith, and Watson teamed up for a time of 3:40.99 to secure the victory for the Eagles and out pace the previous record of 3:42.47 set last season.

Watson took the 200m title clocking in a personal best time of 23.38 for the second fastest time in program history,  then tied a school record set by Devine Parker last season in the 60m with a time of 7.39.

Smith claimed the 400m title setting a personal best time of 54.43 and the second fastest time in program history. The sophomore qualified for the finals with a time of 55.42 before setting the personal best.

Imani Moore took third place in the long jump in front of fellow Eagle, Kennedy Hood, who finished in fourth place. Payton Guye used a personal best in the same event, leaping 5.73m for an eighth place finish.

The first day of competition saw several personal best performances including Madison Hevesy and MaKenna Hillmer in the Pentathlon scoring 2666 and 2907 points, respectively. Catherine Hall ran a personal best in the 5000m posting a time of 18:24.93.

The second day of competition saw more personal best fall as Molina set a personal best in the 800m. Alexandria Kennedy, Imani Moore, Jailah Lee, and Guye each set a personal record in the triple jump.

Head Coach David Neville Quotable
"I'm really proud of this group of ladies. Everyone came out this meet and showed tremendous effort. Athletes stepped up when it counted most, and I couldn't be more proud. I'm excited for where we'll continue to go as a program. Thank you to the coaches that have walked alongside these ladies and for the athletes that have continued to trust us in making them better! Hail Southern!"
