INDIANAPOLIS – For the third time in program history, the Georgia Southern rifle team will be represented at the NCAA Championships as sophomore
Emma Pohlmann has been selected to compete in air rifle. The 2024 NCAA Rifle Championships to be held on March 8-9 at WVU Coliseum and hosted by West Virginia University in Morgantown.
The air rifle portion of the championships will take place on Saturday, March 9 and will be on point 24 in relay 2, which starts at 11:30 a.m. Pohlmann is one of six individual qualifiers in air rifle due to two shooters qualifying in both disciplines, and she will be joined by Allison Henry (Memphis), Derek Keiser (Ohio State), Viktor Kiss (Ohio State), Gavin Perkowski (Akron) and Gabriela Zych (Memphis). Each of the eight teams that qualified will also have their individuals compete. Georgia Southern as a team just missed the cut to make the Championships, falling less than a point behind Nebraska for the eighth spot.
Pohlmann has been one of the top air rifle shooters in the country this season with a 595.154 average and her 595 at last weekend's NCAA Qualifier at the Shooting Sports Education Center sealed her trip Morgantown. This season, she has finished first in air rifle at six of the 13 NCAA events she's participated in and her season average is ranked 13th in the NCAA heading into postseason. She tied the school record with a 599 (out of 600) earlier this season, as well.
She becomes the third Georgia Southern student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA air rifle. Rosemary Kramer qualified in 2019 and finished third in the country en route to All-America honors.
Addy Burrow qualified for last year's NCAA air rifle.
Freshman
Zahra Gonzalez Mazo is the first alternate in air rifle should a competitor not be able to compete.
The team will be in action March 2 and 3, participating in the Southern Conference Championships at The Citadel as the Eagles look for their third straight title.
