Eagles Take Down Wofford in SoCon Action

Eylander posts career best in air rifle

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -
The fifth-ranked Georgia Southern rifle team moved to 8-0 on the season and picked up its first SoCon win of the season with a 4,730-4,567 victory over Wofford Saturday at the Taylor Rifle Range.

In smallbore, the Eagles took seven of the top eight spots to shoot a 2,357, its highest total of the season and the second-best score in program histoy. Emme Walrath took first place with a career-best 593 and was followed by Bremen Butler in second with a 589. Emma Pohlmann took third with a 587 and she was followed by Zahra Gonzalez Mazo, who tied her career high with a 587. Tori Watts (584; 5th), Hailey Singleton (574; 6th) and Matilda Eylander (569; 8th) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles.

In air rifle, Eylander shot a career-high 596 to take the gold with a match-high 52 centers. Walrath, Butler and Pohlmann all shot 594s, but the order went 2-3-4 based on centers. Watts took fifth with a 592 and Gonzalez Mazo (590) and Singleton (577) were the other shooters for the Eagles.

The Eagles took the top seven spots in aggregate, led by Walrath's 1,187. Butler shot a 1,183 to take second and Pohlmann shot a 1,181 to take third. Gonzalez Mazo (1,177; 4th), Watts (1,176; 5th), Eylander (1,165; 6th) and Singleton (1,151; 7th) also helped the Eagles' cause.
