Softball Sweeps Day Two in Bash in the Boro

Eagles conclude action Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team picked up a pair of wins on day two of the Bash in the Boro, Saturday at Beautiful Eagle Field. The Eagles defeated UMass, 5-0, and Merrimack, 5-3. 

The Bash in the Boro concludes on Sunday with Merrimack and UMass playing at 9 a.m. before the Eagles face Radford in the final game of the tournament at 11:30 a.m. 

GAME ONE - Georgia Southern 5, UMass 0

Bailey Holland spun her second career complete game shutout with the first coming last season against Georgia State on April 14. Holland gave up eight hits and a steady defense held strong to secure the shutout for her second win of the season. 

Georgia Southern got on the board first in the bottom of the second after Delanie Thames recorded her first career triple, Emma Davis plated Thames on an RBI single to left field. 

The Eagles continued to extend its lead in the third posting three runs on just one hit. Sam Vinson drew an RBI bases-loaded walk to score the first run of the inning before a walk and hit by pitch plated two more runs. The Eagles would score its final run of the game in the fourth to make the final, 5-0. 

UMass threatened in the third and fifth being aggressive on the basepaths but a 8-2 putout in the third and 9-4-2 putout in the sixth ended the Minutewomen threat. 

Katie Perkins led the Eagle offense going 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored. 

GAME TWO - Georgia Southern 5, Merrimack 3

Georgia Southern got on the board first in the first after Emma Davis led off the game with a single, Perkins recorded her first RBI of the game scoring Davis on a base hit to left field. Merrimack responded in the third to tie the game scoring on a wild pitch. The Eagles would take the lead for good in the third after Perkins recorded her second RBI on an infield single.

The Eagles extended its lead in the fourth and fifth but Merrimack would respond in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs to cut into the Eagle lead. Alana Barnard would come into relief to record a bases loaded strikeout to end the inning keeping it, 5-3. 

Perkins, Faith Barth, and Emily Greek went 2-for-3 to lead the Eagle offense. Perkins recorded her second 3-RBI game in an Eagle uniform with her last one coming last season on Feb. 25 against North Carolina A&T. 

Dixiana Sims earned her first career win as an Eagle pitching 5.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits, striking out four and Anslie Pettit secured her first career save.
