Eagles finish the weekend 4-1 to open the 2024 season
STATESBORO – Faith Barth delivered the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Georgia Southern softball took the final game, 2-1, of the Bash in the Boro tournament against Radford on Sunday at Beautiful Eagle Field.
Anslie Pettit threw her second complete game of the season to earn the win to move to 1-1 in her freshman campaign. Pettit notched the win in the complete- game effort, giving up four hits and fanning seven.
Radford took an initial lead in the sixth with a leadoff single to start the inning before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt, then scored the lone run on a single to left field to break the tie.
Sam Vinson tied things up, 1-1, with one swing in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extras.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Barth scored Kinley Stewart to plate the game winning run for its first walk off win of the season. With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, Kinley Stewart began the inning on second base. Delanie Thames drew a walk to put runners on first and second for the top of the order before Emma Davis reached on a sac bunt to load the bases.
Emma Davis led the offense going 2-for-3 for her third multi-hit game of the season as three other Eagles posted a hit on the day.
The last walk off win for the Eagles came last season against Appalachian State in a come from behind win as Janai Conklin launched a two-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Eagles the win over the Mountaineers.
