Bats Get Hot in a 16-4 Win for Georgia Southern

Jarrett Brown knocks second grand slam in as many games, ends with 7 RBI

HUNTINGTON, W. Va - Jarrett Brown's seven RBI performance highlighted a 16-4 victory for the Georgia Southern baseball team over Marshall Friday afternoon on the banks of the Ohio River.

The Eagles (19-19, 9-7 SBC) got on the board first with an AJ Wenrich bases-loaded hit by pitch, sending Jarrett Brown back to home plate and giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Georgia Southern proceeded to score eight in the top of the second inning, sparked by Brown's second grand slam in as many games, scoring Jesse Sherrill, Sam Blancato, and JP Tighe. Wenrich batted into a fielder's choice, which brought Noah Ledford. Following that, Tighe's RBI-single to right field brought home Wenrich and Corey Dowdell. To conclude the scoring in the top of the second inning, a throwing error by the Marshall catcher would allow Tighe to make it home.

Marshall (15-21, 4-12 SBC) would get three runs back between the bottom of the second and third innings, but Georgia Southern would keep the foot on the gas to continue scoring. Wenrich would score on a double play in the top of the fourth inning, and then in the top of the fifth inning, he would bring Ledford home on an RBI-single to left center field. In the top of the sixth inning, Brown would knock his second homer of the day, this one a three-run shot, to left center field, bringing Sherrill and Blancato home with him. Marshall would get a single run back in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Wenrich would put a bow on the game with his first-career home run to left center field, cementing the 16-4 victory for Georgia Southern.

Ty Fisher earned his third win of the season with six innings of three-run baseball. Jonah Milchuck recorded his first Division I save of his career with three innings of relief pitching.
