CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina softball plated five runs in the sixth inning to claim a 5-4 Sun Belt Conference victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Saturday at St. John Stadium in Conway.
The Chanticleers (27-9, 4-4 SBC) earned the series win over the Eagles (11-19, 1-7 SBC). The two teams will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday with a Noon contest.
Georgia Southern took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning on Emma Davis' RBI single to third, then a two-run single by Faith Barth up the middle.
The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning. The Chanticleers loaded the bases with nobody out en route to scoring five runs in the frame, sending nine batters to the plate. Riley Zana's RBI double down the right field line capped the scoring in the inning and ended up being the key insurance run.
