Eagles will cover a total of 8,909 miles during the 2024 campaign
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern head baseball coach Rodney Hennon revealed the 2024 baseball schedule on Friday Oct. 20.
The schedule will feature five teams that appeared in last season's regionals, including two regional hosts. The schedule also features five different teams from autonomy conferences, including three SEC teams, the most the Eagles have faced in a regular season since 1995.
"We're excited for another challenging non-conference schedule in 2024," said coach Hennon. "This slate should prepare us for an always-tough Sun Belt Conference schedule and give us an opportunity to build a strong resume throughout the season."
Georgia Southern will begin the season by playing an autonomy conference team for the fourth-straight season and hosting an autonomy conference opponent for the second-consecutive season when Maryland comes to town from Feb. 16-18. Following that, the Eagles will continue an in-state rivalry with Georgia Tech, facing the Yellow Jackets in J.I. Clements Stadium on Feb. 20.
Following four games at home, Georgia Southern will travel to Starkville, Miss., to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs (Feb. 23-25) for the first time since the 1990 College World Series. Georgia Southern concludes play in the month of February with a trip down to Jacksonville (Feb. 27) for the first game of a three-game series that will take place over the course of the season, the first three-game set between the two programs since 2008.
The Eagles host a regional participant and a local power in the Campbell Camels from March 1-3 at J.I. Clements Stadium before venturing up to SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C., for neutral site action and this season's only meeting with Georgia on March 5. The Eagles will host the Radford Highlanders in the final non-conference weekend series from March 8-10, which will also serve as the Georgia Southern baseball team's Alumni Weekend. Kennesaw State will make the trek to Statesboro on March 12 for the first of two meetings this season before Georgia Southern starts conference play.
The Eagles will open Sun Belt play on the road for the first time since 2022, heading for Norfolk, Va., to take on the Old Dominion Monarchs from March 15-17, in what will be their final season at Bud Metheny Ballpark before the facility is rebuild. Georgia Southern will be back at home on March 19 to play the first of three games against the College of Charleston Cougars, playing a three-game set with the Cougars for the first time since 2013, when CofC left the SoCon for the CAA.
Southern Miss comes to Statesboro for the first time in series history as the Eagles and the Golden Eagles square off from March 22-24. Following that match-up, College of Charleston returns to Statesboro on March 26 before the Eagles head westward to Jonesboro, Ark., taking on the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Jonesboro for the first time since 2021.
The College of Charleston series concludes in Charleston, S.C., on April 2. Afterwards, the Eagles will remain in the Palmetto State and head to Columbia, S.C., to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks (April 3) for the first time since the Eagles were in the Columbia Regional in 2011.
Georgia Southern will host Georgia State as the first conference series in April, going from April 5-7. The following Tuesday, the Eagles will fly north for the final game of a two-game series against Georgia Tech on April 9, before returning home to take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers from April 12-14.
The Eagles conclude the two-game tilt with the Kennesaw State Owls on April 17 in Kennesaw, Ga., before heading north to Harrisonburg, Va., to take on the James Madison Dukes from April 19-21 in a conference tilt. It will be the first time in the series' 18-game history that the two match up outside of Statesboro.
Georgia Southern and Mercer will face each other in back-to-back days, with the first game happening on April 23 in Statesboro before the two conclude the series on April 24 in Macon. The Marshall Thundering Herd will visit Statesboro from April 26-28 to end the month of April for the Eagles.
May kicks off with a road series at ULM from May 3-5. Georgia Southern has not played the Warhawks in Monroe, La., since 2019. Following a trip to the bayou, the Eagles will return to Jacksonville, Fla., for the middle game of the series against Jacksonville on May 8.
Georgia Southern's final home series will take place from May 10-12, as the Eagles host the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns for the first time since 2018. Jacksonville will come to Statesboro on May 14 to finish out the series and serve as the Eagles final home game.
The regular season concludes with a road trip up the mountain to Boone, N.C., as Georgia Southern and Appalachian State finish the season with the continuation of the rivalry series. This will be the first time since 2011 the two face off in the final regular season series, and the first time as Sun Belt members.
The Sun Belt Conference Championship will return to Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala., for the 2024 season. The dates for the tournament run from May 21-26.
