HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Eagles started out hot at the plate, scoring four quick runs in the first. The first two Eagles got aboard after being hit by a pitch and walked. After a sac-bunt, Bryson Trammell kept his hot bat, mashing his 14th double of the season to centerfield, scoring them both.
- The following batter, Jack Myers mashed a near 400-foot homer to dead center, making it 4-0.
- The Jackets answered back with a quick walk and two singles to load the bases. Although two scored from a Zuckerman single, that would be the only damage done in the opening frame.
- In the Tech second, the bases were quickly loaded with none away after a double and two hit batters. After a strikeout, the Eagles got the force out at home to put two away. After a mid-at bat pitching change, the Eagles walked one home to make it 4-3. However, a groundout would strand the bases loaded for Tech.
- In the bottom of the third, Zuckerman launched a solo homer to start the inning and tie the game, but the next three batters found themselves retired.
- In the Eagle fourth, Frank Wells found the gap on a one-out single before McCoy was hit by a pitch. With two away, a throwing error from the Jackets gifted Southern the lead back.
- With two away in Georgia Tech's fourth, Advincula and Hernandez launched back-to-back solo homers to give them the lead, 6-5.
- After the tying run for the Eagles was wiped off the board after a Yellow Jacket error was overturned, the Yellow Jackets used four hits, including a Burress triple, to plate two more and extend their lead to three.
- With two more aboard in the sixth for Tech, a Baker double in the gap sent them both home to make it 10-5.
- The Eagles got one back after another double by Senese into the gap, which scored Jonathan Jaime all the way from first after he got on via a walk.
- However, a Rogers solo home run after the stretch would extend their lead to 11-6.
- Southern stormed back in the game in their eighth as after a McCoy single and two walks, Myers took yet another free base to plate one. A Jonathan Jaime single advanced everyone to cut the deficit to three and give him RBI number five of the year. A fielder's choice and RBI for Senese a batter later cut the game to just 11-9, but could not muster anymore in the frame.
- The Jackets immediately put their foot down with a back-to-back leadoff homers from Daniel and Zuckerman, making it 13-9. In the ninth, the Eagles could not muster any more runs, closing out the night.
NOTES:
- The last time the Eagles faced a top-two team in the nation was March 8th, 2011, when the Eagles took down no. 1 Florida in Gainesville, 7-0.
- Senese had a two double evening for just the second time all season. The other came on March 28th, in the second game of the series against Troy.
- McCoy had a perfect 4-4 night, his third time going that much or better on the season and first since his 5-5 day against Marshall on March 22nd.
UP NEXT:
- The Eagles start a crucial Sun Belt series against Old Dominion on Friday (April 17th) in Norfolk, Va. First pitch at the new Ellmer Family Baseball Complex is set for 6 PM.
