Seven-part feature catches up with GS baseball players on summer league teams
STATESBORO – 18 Georgia Southern baseball players have kept busy after the conclusion of the baseball season by playing in various summer baseball leagues around the country. Over the course of the coming week, we will be checking in on our players and seeing how they are performing over the summer. For today, we will be looking at outfielder Sam Blancato and infielder Jarrett Jenkins.
The Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League is an amateur summer wooden bat league based in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. There are seven teams that make up the league that play 36 regular-season games. For the playoffs, the top two seeds earn byes to the semifinals, while the third seed plays the sixth seed and the fourth seed plays the fifth seed. Winners of the first round go on to the semifinals, and the winners of the semifinals play in a three game series.
Both Blancato and Jenkins play for the DC Grays located in Washington DC. The DC Grays finished their season at sixth in the CPCBL with a 15-21 record and lost their first round game against the Gaithersburg Giants.
