STATESBORO – 18 Georgia Southern baseball players have kept busy after the conclusion of the baseball season by playing in various summer baseball leagues around the country. Over the course of the coming week, we will be checking in on our players and seeing how they are performing over the summer. For today, we will be looking at RHP Troy Britts, third baseman Jarrett Brown, and infielder Blake Evans out of the Coastal Plain League.

The original version of the CPL was in operation from 1937 to 1952, but was on hiatus from 1941 to 1946 due to World War II. After 1952, the league ceased operation until 1997, when it came back to bring summer baseball back to the southeast. The CPL is made of 15 team spanning across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL also boasts a large number of alumni that advance to the next level; over 1,750 CPL alumni have been drafted by MLB teams and 155 have played in the MLB.

Three Eagles are members of three different teams in the league. Britts is a member of the Macon Bacon, Brown is a member of the High Point-Thomasville HiToms, and Evans is a member of the Wilson Tobs.

TROY BRITTS
Troy Britts has appeared in three games for the Macon Bacon this season after joining the team later in the season. He has a 1.68 ERA thus far with one strikeout and has only given up a single run this season. Britts had his best outing of the season in his debut on July 18 against the Florence Flamingos, where we pitched for two innings with no hits and no walks, posting a 0.00 ERA and a .00 WHIP to open his CPL career.

JARRETT BROWN
Jarrett Brown has played in 21 games so far for the HP-Thomasville HiToms. He has posted a .263 batting average thus far, with 20 hits, four doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and 22 runs scored of his own. Brown's best outing of the season came in a 13-8 victory over the Tri-City Chili Peppers on July 14, where he went four-for-six with four runs, a home run, and had five RBI on the night. He also added another stolen base to his count that night, and he now stands at eight on the season.

BLAKE EVANS
Blake Evans has played in 18 games with the Wilson Tobs. He has a .236 batting average with 13 hits, two RBI, and 13 runs scored. He also has four stolen bases and 10 walks to give him an on-base percentage of .382. Evans has had three multi-hit games in his past six outings, including a pair of three-for-four nights against the Wilmington Sharks on July 16 and the Tri-City Chili Peppers on July 22.
