Eagles eager to tackle competitive slate featuring several competitive matchups and expanded Sun Belt opponents
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Head Women's Soccer Coach Chris Adams has announced the Fall 2022 schedule for the Eagles. Matches against three of the newest Sun Belt Conference additions and seven home contests at Eagle Field spotlight the slate.
The Eagles' run to the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship match last year put Georgia Southern back on the collegiate soccer map, and right away Coach Adams' squad will find out how the team stacks up to the best with two early contests at SEC opponents. Georgia Southern visits Auburn for an exhibition on Monday, August 8, at 7:30 p.m., then finishes off its exhibition slate by hosting Charleston Southern on Saturday, August 13, at Eagle Field.
Georgia Southern opens the 2022 regular season by traveling to Athens to take on the University of Georgia on Thursday, August 18, at 6 p.m. It's the first time the Eagles have opened up against an SEC foe since 2005, when Georgia Southern also faced the Bulldogs in Athens.
The regular season home opener for the Eagles is on Sunday, August 21, hosting UAB at 1 p.m. at Eagle Field. A six-game road swing then begins on Thursday, August 25, as the Eagles visit North Florida for a 4:30 p.m. tilt in Jacksonville. Georgia Southern will then travel to the state of Arizona for the first time in program history, taking on Northern Arizona on Thursday, September 1, then Arizona State on Sunday, September 4, with both games beginning at 10 p.m. ET.
A midweek visit back to Jacksonville to take on Jacksonville University on Thursday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. is followed by a 1 p.m. game at Kennesaw State on Sunday, September 11. The Eagles then wrap up the extended road swing by opening up Sun Belt Conference play at Troy on Sunday, September 18, at 2 p.m.
Georgia Southern finally returns home on Thursday, September 22, taking on Texas State at 7 p.m. A road date against new Sun Belt member Old Dominion follows on Sunday, September 25, at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles host Arkansas State to begin October, taking on the Red Wolves on Sunday, October 2, at Noon.
The Eagles then travel to Marshall on Thursday, October 6, for a 7 p.m. against another Sun Belt newcomer, then return to Eagle Field to face Appalachian State on Sunday, October 9, at 1 p.m. A week later, the Eagles host Coastal Carolina on Sunday, October 16, at 1 p.m. before traveling to Monroe, La., to take on ULM at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 20.
The regular season schedule wraps up with the Eagles hosting newcomer James Madison on Sunday, October 23, at 1 p.m., then visiting Georgia State on Thursday, October 27, at 7 p.m. The 2022 Sun Belt Conference Tournament takes place from October 31 through November 6 in Foley, Ala.
"We have put together a very competitive out of conference schedule that should prepare us for an even tougher Sun Belt Conference slate this fall," Coach Adams said. "The Sun Belt Conference has greatly improved with the addition of four new schools into the conference. I feel it's important to stretch ourselves and with the likes of Auburn, Georgia, and Arizona State, we feel like we have the most competitive schedule possible to prepare us for what should be an ultra competitive SBC season."
