Volleyball Falls 3-2 at Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. – Lulu Ambrose posted 21 kills, and Denny McCall finished with 20 kills and 19 digs to lead Appalachian State to a 3-2 Sun Belt volleyball win over Georgia Southern Friday night in the Holmes Center.
Eagles of the Match
Emily Jarome tallied 21 kills, 11 digs and two blocks for the Eagles (14-9, 6-5), and Paige Powers finished with 13 kills, nine digs and a block. Baylor Bumford had 11 kills and four blocks, and Ashlyn Lovett collected 15 digs.
Key Moments
Appalachian State (15-9, 8-5) came back from an 8-5 deficit in the fifth, scoring six of the next seven points and opening an 11-9 lead following consecutive kills by Ambrose and Maya Winterhoff. Powers cut the margin to 12-11 with a kill, but the Mountaineers scored the next three points to win the set and the match. McCall got the sideout with a kill, Winterhoff served an ace and Madison Baldridge finished the match with a kill.

GS posted a .227 hitting percentage, compared to .212 for App, but the Mountaineers tallied nine more kills and had eight more swings. The match saw 23 lead changes in the five sets.
