FIRST SERVE
- For the second time in her career and the first for the 2026, third year libero, Maddie Cugino, was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after helping guide the Eagles to their first sweep of the Chanticleers on the road. The Columbus, Ohio, native recorded 39 digs (6.50 per set), adding a 92.7% dig rate and a 31.7% dig to point percentage. The anchor of the Eagles' defense added eight assists and one ace, leading the league in digs per set in conference play through two matches.
- For the first time in program history, Georgia Southern went on the road to Conway, South Carolina, and swept the Chanticleers in consecutive matches. The sweep on Friday was the first for the Eagles on the road since 1994 and the two wins were the first time the Eagles have swept the Chants on the road as they opened the Sun Belt slate with a 2-0 record in conference play and the East division.
- After dropping the first three matches of the season in Hawaii, Georgia Southern has been nearly untouchable on the court, posting a 10-1 record with three tournament championships. During that stretch, the Eagles have dropped six total sets in 11 matches, falling only on the road at Wake Forest in five. With the weekend sweep in Conway, Georgia Southern posted the highest winning percentage in program history (90.9), the highest under head coach Chad Willis. That stretch also features eight sweeps.Â
- Friday night in Hanner Fieldhouse marks the first time in program history that the Monarchs will compete in Statesboro. The previous two meetings that were originally scheduled had been moved or canceled due to storms, but it also marks a new first for the two sides on the court. Fourth year setter, Lexi Duffy, will face off against her younger sister, Erica Duffy, in what the Eagles have dubbed the "Duffy Bowl". The two have never been on the same court together in a competitive setting, as the age gap limited opportunities.Â
- Georgia Southern has been a force inside Hanner Fieldhouse, posting a 6-0 record and dropping just three total sets in those matches. The Eagles have swept both home non-conference tournaments and have turned Hanner Fieldhouse into one of the hardest venues in the league to play in. In program history, the Eagles have posted a 309-204 record at home and a record of 69-29 under head coach Chad Willis.
