STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern track & field hosted their first event of the 2021 outdoor season this weekend, taking the G.A.T.A Classic crown. GS scored 216 points on the weekend, winning by 73 points.
In the 100 meter, the Eagles would finish second, third and fourth to collect points. Camryn Mathis posted a time of 11.92 to take home silver and move into 9th best in school history. In the 200 meter, Scovia Ayikoru, posted a second place finish and 8th in school history with a time of 24.50 in the event. Aris Hubbard finished just behind Ayikoru with a time of 24.69.
Isabel Ptacek finished third in the 800 meter, posting a time of 2:28.04. Abby Arnett finished second in the 1500 meter and 10th in school history with a time of 4:55.51. Hannah Wise won the 5000 meter, posting a time good enough for 3rd best in school history of 18:26.83. Zykeria Williams, Jakeeyah Seymour and Izlyn Zaini went 1-2-3 in the 100 meter hurdles.Â
Meagan Lynch won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.25 a personal record and 8th best in school history. The Eagles 4x100 and 4x400 teams both won their respective events this weekend.
Siddeeqa Abdul-Rahman posted a personal record in the Hammer Throw and won the event with a distance of 42.95m. Martina Takang set a personal record and was 10th best in school history with a distance of 40.07m in the Discus Throw. Hubbard and Williams would each win their respective jumping events.
The Eagles will now have the next two and half weeks off before heading to the Tiger Twilight Midweek, hosted by Savannah State.
