
Eagles Claim Fourth in 2020 Debut

MACON-- Merabu Nagwandala led all runners in the Georgia Southern cross country season opener as the team took fourth place at the Julius Memorial Classic Saturday morning.
The junior distance and cross country star placed third overall with a time of 19:11.70 in the 5k race. She was followed by four newcomers placing 14th, 16th, 21st and 28th.
The hosting Mercer Bears won the meet with 41 team points.
What coach Wes Penberthy said: "We only competed five, and had four freshmen in the group. We really tried to go out and compete and do right today. I thought we did that and it was a good growing lesson for us."
The team will host the GATA Classic on Sept. 25 at Seventh Mile Farm in Statesboro.
